Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Havasupai Indian
Tribe’s lawsuit against the Arizona Board of Regents, et al.
Since the beginning of time, the Havasupai believe we have lived at
the bottom of the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona. Our lives
were forever changed when our sacred blood was stolen from us Arizona
State University for research not consent for studies in the areas of
schizophrenia, inbreeding and to support the “Bering Strait theory.”
Not only do these studies contradict the spiritual beliefs of the
Havasupai, they have caused grave emotional duress and mistrust
resulting in refusal by some members to now seek medical care for
illnesses and ailments that affect our people.
As
of today, we have exhausted all legal efforts to mediate a resolution
with Arizona State University. Although the procedure proved in favor
of the Havasupai Tribe, the defendants have taken the stance that the
Tribe is too small and without means for legal defense funds to carry
this case through court and have chosen to engage in that route.
Our quest to defend our rights, dignity and spirit of our people will
be long but we have faith that justice will prevail in the end.
